PAUL BRADLEY - CONSUMED CDr/DVDr
CONSUMED is an amalgam of drones and textures that entwine and wrap around themselves to create an environment of altered reality. CONSUMED shares similar traits with ‘Somatic’ (con-v 2007) where the origin of the sounds and the concept behind creating them is ultimately unimportant for the listener, who it is intended, will make their own judgments and create their own emotional responses.

Maurizio Bianchi, Nobu Kasahara, Hitoshi Kojo - The epidemic symphony no.9
This recording has been progressed by mail exchange among three artists in Italy, Japan and Switzerland since winter in 2003 for two years. Their own works are strongly related with their each different religious outlook or philosophy. This work has been evolved from a theme which Maurizio Bianchi suggested. The dialogue was crystallized into the complex layered vast harmony. The art work on the cover jacket is their collaboration as well.

Paul Bradley - Consumed
CONSUMED is an amalgam of drones and textures that entwine and wrap around themselves to create an environment of altered reality. CONSUMED shares similar traits with ‘Somatic’ (con-v 2007) where the origin of the sounds and the concept behind creating them is ultimately unimportant for the listener, who it is intended, will make their own judgments and create their own emotional responses.
The fundamental difference between CONSUMED and ‘Somatic’ is that here a visual counterpart is also presented. Like the audio the origins of the visuals are unimportant, representing the audio in only the most abstract of ways, complimenting it with it’s obscured, high contrast and saturated colours that slowly drift, blur and meld together.
The dvd is purposely authored without any menus or chapters, you simply put it in your machine and play. It is stereo sound, region free pal and should not pose a problem for any modern dvd players regardless of pal/ntsc formatting.

Paul Bradley - Màs Memorias Extranjeras
CD in card sleeve. Remix companion release to Memorias Extranjeras on Alluvial Recordings offering a very different rendering of the original.
On returning to Memorias Extranjeras (and to the Spanish City of Valencia) the foggy, dark somberness that punctuated the first CD had gone. A fundamental change had occurred in the twelve months between ‘Memorias Extranjeras’ and ‘Màs Memorias Extranjeras’ and there was a desire to reflect this and re-work the piece to match this clearer change in perspective. The two releases are two sides of the same coin, one darker, more detached and the other, calmer and more open. Memories that had changed and warped, softened and melded together, the same experience revisited through different eyes.

Paul Bradley - Sketches from Dust
(special edition)
CD SPECIAL EDITION OF 200 IN HAND PAINTED WALLET
Following on from ‘Memorias Extranjeras’ (Alluvial Recordings) with ‘Sketches from Dust’, we again have a less ‘typical’ Paul Bradley release. For this CD, gone are the field recordings and over the forty minutes we hear a piece that is mainly constructed from Guitar and Piano (the latter being played by Maja Elliott of Current 93). The recording is augmented by various acoustic sounds and some precise mixing techniques to form an organic and possibly ‘looser’ feeling recording than we might be previously expecting. What we hear is an intimate yet murky, almost eroded sonic journey.
A primitive earlier outtake of ‘Sketches from Dust’ appeared on the limited ‘Notes from Past - Sketches from Dust’ CDr released earlier in 2006. This now fully realized work is released in two CD editions, one limited to 200 copies in hand painted card sleeve and a second unlimited edition with printed card insert in a plastic wallet.

Paul Bradley & Adam Sonderberg - Anoxia
Collaboration,
be it business, marriage or artistic, can, depending
on who you are, produce a freeing or stifling environment.
On the occasions that collaborations succeed in freeing
the individual, the results produced in these partnerships
can approach the transcendent.‘anoxia’ is the first
co-production between UK based, Paul Bradley (Monos,
regular collaborator with Colin Potter) and Adam Sonderberg
(Dropp Ensemble, Civil War) from the US of A (that’s,
‘A’ for ‘almost’) and their
respective labels, Twenty Hertz and Longbox Recordings.Material was recorded and mailed.
The subsequent mixes were listened to, talked about
and methodically refined; and so here we have ‘anoxia’:
a long form drone work rooted in profound darkness;
birthed from the omnipresent hum of imminent demise.
Admittedly the last paragraph is
pretty heavy-handed, but how else can we convey what
is on offer here? Drawing comparisons between artists
is commonplace in music criticism, so what can be
said about ‘anoxia’ without likening it
to the work of Mirror, Jonathan Coleclough or Francisco
López? (oops!). Well, this is one of those
records that you’ll keep in your collection
and turn to in the intervening years as a failsafe
when it comes to idiomatic drone composition.
The first edition of our beloved
recording is housed in a slimline dvd case with striking
hand screened cover art. This is red hot.

Paul Bradley & Colin Potter - Confluence
The first track is a 'best of' amalgam of live
studio rehearsals leading upto the performance for
Intergration 2. This is a truly collaborative piece
that was captured at its very inception. The second
and third tracks are individual reworking's of the
former where the original is turned on its head, twisted
and morphed into something all together different,
revealing only the smallest of hints as to its source
to guide us home.

Maile Colbert - moborosi
Maile Colbert’s ‘moborosi’ is a mini album totaling around 30 minutes in length. It takes elements from numerous genres and influences, mixing them together to form a remarkably individual and coherent whole.
In terms of style, ‘moborosi’ can be seen as a bit of a departure for Twenty Hertz. Sounds that caress and then disrupt, suck you in and spit you back out, this work slowly draws you into its world and leads you to the simply beautiful final track ‘Blinding begin again’.

Monos - Landscapes
Colin
Potter and Darren Tate are joined by guest member
for the day Paul Bradley for some serious musical
ruminations. CD in carton sleeve with artwork from
Darren.
The Monos Duo of Darren Tate and Colin Potter are
joined by fellow computer based composer Paul Bradley
for an electronic drone session that pushes hard against
the boundaries of the form. Featuring a guest appearance
by Robin Barnes, "Entering" begins soothingly
enough, but soon the intensification of Mono's combined
drone technique reaches a low level plane that steadily
cruises towards condition red on the overload meter.
"Surface Form" repeats the exercise, summoning
up an almost ceremonial atmosphere in which the trio's
elevating computer hum sounds not unlike the chanting
of Tibetan monks deep in prayer. Both pieces are exceptionally
well recorded and realised, together with a studios
sense of how abstract sound can be turned into a dream
weapon. Edwin Pouncey The Wire

Murmer - In their homes and in their heads
7 INCH VINYL SINGLE
"The man behind MURMER is the US-American field recording specialist PATRICK MCGINLEY (who lives in France now), who’s also responsible for the great 'Framework' radio programme on London’s RESONANCE 104.4FM. The two pieces on this "Drone" captivate the listener with intelligently assembled and multi-layered recordings of a garden in London (i.e. tree bark, water, footsteps, a creaking gate), processer and ventilation sounds of an old computer, and beads of a broken necklace. All sounds were left un-processed. Combined, they take you on a trip into an other world of low drones and high-pitched noises, crunching and gritting microsounds, surprising cut-ups, all very near and clear...
CLEAR VINYL, HAND-ASSEMBLED COVERS WITH PIECES OF A SCARF, SCRAPS OF A NOTEBOOK AND HAIR OF PATRICK MCGINLEY!" [press release]

BJ Nilsen & Stilluppsteypa
- Drykkjuvisur Ohljodanna
In Scandinavia, it's not uncommon to hear of someone's mother, grandfather, uncle, or plumber who drank him-or-herself to death at an early age; and the Swedish drone artist BJ Nilsen has felt the alcoholic pangs which may foreshadow his own demise. In recent years, Nilsen has turned to his Icelandic neighbors Sigtryggur Berg Sigmarsson and Helgi Thorsson (collectively known as Stilluppsteypa) in existential sympathy over the problems of their collective lust for alcohol. Drykkjuvisur Ohljodanna marks the second collaborative document of abject minimalism that these three have composed; and like its predecessor Vikinga Brennivin, this album is spiked with drunken thought. Any alcohol induced euphoria has been tempered by perturbing blackouts, moments of cruelty, and an all-consuming nihilism. Beyond their shared Scandinavian heritage, their expressionist urge for the frigid drone, and their penchant for drink, BJ Nilsen and Stilluppsteypa intend this recording as an open ended experience, wandering through their sound without the burden of any exegetical text that may get in the way.
Drykkjuvisur Ohljodanna resolves itself as a grim kaleidoscope, where the bleakness of the wintry Scandinavian landscape and the langour of a drunken escapade constantly mutate through the highly refined sensibility of dronescaping. Sonar pings announce the beginning of this album, with its echoes returning as an amorphous fog and locating little but a gloomy pall upon the event horizon. Clattering electronics scurry across the barren sounds like death-watch beetles upon the tundra; and creaking doors offer something much more foreboding than what Pierre Henry envisioned for musique concrete. Drykkjuvisur Ohljodanna adheres to the psychological dis-quiet through sound design that Alan Splet provided for Eraserhead or that Nurse With Wound achieved on Salt Marie Celeste. Yet for all of their tendencies for brooding and desolation, BJ Nilsen & Stilluppsteypa retain a compulsion for a glacial beauty through their intoxicated visions of the sublime.
BJ Nilsen has released numerous records for Touch and Ash International, both under his given name and as Hazard, often focusing the sound of nature, its effect on humans, and the perception of time & space as experienced through sound. He has also previously collaborated with Christian Fennesz and Chris Watson. Stilluppsteypa have unleashed well over a dozen releases in their tumultuous existence of electro-absurdism laced with subversion, blackhumour, and horror.
Drykkjuvisur Ohljodanna is a limited edition pressing of 1000 copies. Label description.

Colin Potter & Paul Bradley -
Behind Your

A

Colin Potter & Paul Bradley - Live (Repress)
CDr
This is a repress in addition to the first edition of 200 that had a printed hand-finished and signed
sleeve. This repress 'standard' edition has a normal printed sleeve that has not been hand finished or signed. The audio content of the two editions is identical. Recorded at two low-key performances
on 21st October and 18th November 2004, in Colin and
Paul’s hometown of Preston Lancashire, the tracks
presented here are considered by the artists themselves
as being amongst their very best live performances.
For this reason they wanted to make these recordings
available to people who were unable to attend on the
night.
The sounds enclosed on the disc drift, rumble and
rustle past slowly drawing the listener in and then
dropping them in the middle of nowhere. What is then
communicated is of course, only what the listener
is willing to hear.

RLW - Contours Imaginaires
10 inch LP.
The whole composition is based on only few seconds of piano-sounds and vocals (the rest is "imagination") and the track-titles & pieces offer strong inter-relations in a complex way.
The used sounds develop through imagination & decay ("denaturing transformations") and appear in the pieces with different emphases. The "classical" piano-sounds and its highly processed permutations are set in contrast with the highly emotional voice-material, like entering a convoluted labyrinth of voice-frazzles, drones & fragmented strange sounds......
Being on a microlevel ("phantasized cell"), judging the decay of shadows. Are these the memories of single cells? The shadow of abrasion-processes? The slow decay of imaginations?
A fantastic work where conceptual thoughts and emotionally driven acoustics merge in a perfect way.

Spoonbender 1.1.1 -
Stereo telepathy academy
In 1913, Marcel Duchamp dropped three pieces of string, each a meter long, from a height equal to their length. He then cut shapes into pieces of wood in order to document the rumpled line of his three fallen strings. In essence, Duchamp conceived his 3 Standard Stoppages as a preservation of chance, which he viewed as a means to combat logical reality. In addition to Duchamp's self-proclaimed antipathy to the rational world, he was quite particular in how he contextualized and executed his ideas through readymade objects, chance operations, and his notorious psycho-sexually charged dioramas. It is this dualism between the chance operation and an absolute intellectual/technical control which brings us to the present age, and to Spoonbender 1.1.1 in particular. the acceptance and integration of opposites results in the 3rd option: everything. Darren Tate - The elves are coming
CDr.
Along with one of his best titles this features some excellent artwork from Darren and comes in the ‘usual’ Twenty Hertz style in a jewelcase with printed inserts. What we hear however is a little harder to explain. Guitar and Organ improvisations mix with everyday environmental sounds and field recordings that were captured in Japan and contributed by Daisuke Suzuki. These two worlds collide to create a very intimate affair. Ominous paranoid undertones rattle the tranquillity of late night insects, the insanity of the day impeding on the faded light.

Troum - Objectlessness
"There is a big gap between “rational”, verbal language and the pre-symbolic language of our emotional and unconscious mind. Music is perceived partly with our conscious mind, who can analyze it and reflect on it. On another part, it is perceived by our unconsciousness, by our “primal consciousness” that lies “under” the rational mind.
The idea: Experimental music, especially that of a more droning character, can easier “get in touch” or be unconsciously connected with this primal state of mind. It is music that is linked with unconscious fantasies coming from a pre-verbal sphere of existence... the phase of life based on the dyadic interaction with the “primal object”, the mother.
At this early stage, there’s no awareness existing of being a full separated Subject, and no other full separated Objects can be perceived. Inner and outer reality is the same. Spheric, droning, dissolving music is pointing unconsciously at this “objectless” sphere of existence. This release is dedicated to the idea of an especially formed “pre-symbolic” music." Ubeboet - spectra
CDr.
Spectra is a simply gorgeous work that begins with the aptly titled ‘Premia Lucis’ and sets the scene for a series of hazy, drifting tracks that seem to blow in on the breeze and evaporate again with languid ease. Snatches of melodies are weaved together amongst dreamlike drones that guide us to a brighter light, elevating us towards the promise of something greater.
An enlightened, wonderfully composed album that Twenty Hertz are proud to bring you.

Various Artists - Resonant Embers
CD
‘resonant embers’ is a compilation featuring Paul Bradley, Maile Colbert, irr. app. (ext.), jgrzinich, Andrew Liles, Colin Potter and Ubeboet who have all previously been released through our parent label Twenty Hertz.
Here we have seven artists presenting seven tracks of drones both stoically austere and upliftingly melodic, haunting melodies, beautifully evocative vocals, engaging field recordings and disorientating environments.
There are many things that link these artists together but it is their differences that are more interesting. There is a fundamental contrast in approach and execution with each channeling their creativity in differing ways from drones and soundscapes, through melodic instrumental pieces to environmental recordings and opera. The artists presented here have created individual works that display a unique voice and emotion, all the while creating a collectively involving work that is rewarded with repeated listens.
‘edition sonoro’ are very pleased and indeed darn right proud to be bringing these artists together on ‘resonant embers’ and hope that listeners will enjoy the unique and emotional journey they have created. label description
